The formula is: Hike % = ((New Salary - Old Salary) / Old Salary) x 100. For example, if your old salary is ₹10 LPA and new salary is ₹11 LPA, your hike is ((11L - 10L) / 10L) x 100 = 10%. This works the same whether you use monthly or annual figures, as long as both are in the same unit.

A good hike depends on your sector. For FY 2025-26: IT sector average is 10-14%, BFSI (banking and finance) is 8-10%, manufacturing is 6-8%, and startups can offer 12-20% or more. Government employees get periodic DA revisions. A hike above your sector average is generally considered good; below 6% in most private sectors means your salary is not keeping pace with inflation.
